Encounters or locations for Dying Earth/He-Man science fantasy weirdness

A list of encounters for Liechtenauer over at Too Many Swords for the OSR discords servers Secret Santicorn.

I’ll admit this took longer than I care to admit, because I initially read He-Man as Conan and wrote a bunch of prompts for Hyboria with a science fantasy twist. I kept a few with them and tossed a few others. Because of this I’m going to try to put out a few more of these until we’re up to a solid 20.

  1. Strange hairless men with four arms and goat like heads whip a procession of slaves. The four armed men are larger than most humans.
  2. Along the side of the road a massive, 10 foot in diameter cable has been unearthed, dozens of peasants have gathered around it to tear the metal out of the ground, and are building a makeshift settlement around it. (It is an ancient buried communications cable long since fallen into disuse and disrepair.)
  3. Grubby looking men in tattered cloth and leather clothes gather around a sign that shows facsimiles of men dying. There are symbols in some ancient tongue and a large skull above them. Many of the men gathered around the sign have claimed strange dark metals, those that have spent long periods of time scavenging metal beyond the sign have odd sunburns and shows signs of illness. (The hex guarded by the sign is filled with radioactive waste, including metals of depleted uranium that are still heavily radiated. The men are suffering from radiation sickness.)
  4. A large forest is hidden inside of a valley, its plants massive and reaching to the sky, with their fronds appearing as if from a time forgotten. When standing inside of this forest the moon appears as a lush green with forests and great rivers visible upon it.
  5. A massive rib-cage juts out of the landscape. Nearly 5 stories high. The rotten viscera falling off of it has fed a lush oasis, but the rot has likely attracted other less savory creatures as well.
  6. A metal tower juts out in the distance covered in lopsided and rusted scaffolding. Atop the tower sits and altar to the moon god (A satellite dish) and a strange glass surface (A computer monitor). If the altar is fixed and moved to face the moon the screen will, once a week, show a birds eye view image of the surrounded 100 miles.
  7. An impromptu pit fight has started between two resting merchant caravans. One of the fighters wields a strange metal shield (An old solar panel with battery on the back) that when exposed to sunlight long enough can deliver a powerful electric shock.
  8. A ball of concentrated lightning darts across the landscape seemingly at random, utterly incinerating anything it touches. The ball is visible only at night, but still dangerous during the day. It’s said there are those that know its patterns and can lead travelers through the land. The ball is loose electrical discharge from a long forgotten power cell buried somewhere in the area and is attracted to ferrous metals. A savvy guide may lead some metal wearing patrons into the desert and let the anomaly do the work
